Who is this for:

If one or more of these statements describes you, this workshop would be a great fit!

  • I started watercolor, loved it, but now I’m feeling stuck

  • I used to paint, then life got in the way. I’m eager to return to an art practice but in need of an extra push

  • I’m an avid art creator, but currently in an art slump

  • I need help boosting my confidence to play and make it ok for me to make something not great, just for the sake of exploration

  • I’m unsure of how to start exploring my own style and concepts and need  to shake things up

  • I just need a full dedicated day to play with art supplies. I find that when I am home there’s always something to do that gets in the way of making art.

Requirements

I designed this workshop with adults in mind, I think younger folks would struggle with the time commitment for this day and some of the curriculum. This workshop also will require some basic knowledge of the fundamentals of watercolor painting. You don’t have to be a rockstar at watercolor or the techniques, but being familiar with them will be very helpful to your enjoyment of this workshop.

  • What do I mean by the basics? The techniques and things below are a samples of the type of knowledge it would be best to have:

    • How to use pan/tube paints to mix colors (you don’t need color knowledge, just the how to add it to the wells and mix it in bit)

    • Washes - know the basics of how to make a flat wash, gradient wash…

    • Know what blooms and backruns are

    • Have experimented with different wetness stages

    • Have tried layering with watercolor

  • How can I be sure I know the basics? If you’ve done anything like these things or similar by the time of the workshop, you’ll be good!

    • Taken my beginner watercolor class (or Andrea’s beginner class, or other similar teacher’s beginner class)

    • Read my book

    • Attended 3+ Make It Dry Meetings

    • Have painted enough with watercolor that you’re confident you know the basics
